Thomas Coville has launched his attempt to set a new solo, without stops, around the world record using sails provided by Incidences Sails in La Rochelle. He is sailing on his 32 meter long Maxi Trimaran launched in June 2007. His goal is beat the record held by Francis Joyon, 57 days, who no so coincidently used Incidences-Sails built by the Incidences loft in Brest. The race is on!
This is not the first records battle between the two sailors. Just recently Francis Joyon, on his maxi trimaran IDEC set a new Route de Discovery Transatlantic previously held by Thomas Coville. Starting from Brest October 29th, having sailed 6019 miles so far, he is 586 miles behind Joyon’s record. Sailing at an average 22 knots, he is lying off the tip of Africa, the Cape of Good Hope. Incidences La Rochelle has provided 854 sq meters of Cuben fiber sails to Sobedo with a 227 m² mainsail and 305 m² Gennaker all flying off the 35 m tall rotating mast. 18053 miles to go!
